He was my supervising officer and a member of my team.

He turned out to be HYDRA. ... An enemy sleeper agent. He stabbed us in the back. He killed a man he knew was innocent and wheelchair-bound in cold blood, just to protect his identity as a mole. As well as I don't know how many other SHIELD agents. He helped jailbreak a high-security prison full of some of the world's worst criminals we spent the last year shutting away. He tried to kill two of our teammates-- one lived, the other is in a coma and might never wake up. And he knowingly tried to use my feelings for him to his advantage in order to extract vital information.

He's evil. Do not talk to him.

If you know he's a liar and a spy, doesn't that eliminate the threat he poses as a liar and a spy?

Sure. But not the threat he poses as a psychopath.

You were dating him when all this happened? You dated your supervising officer?

We weren't dating.

We kissed twice and admitted we had feelings for one another. That was it. It might have gone further, but it was kind of cut short by me figuring out what he was.

Well was he just betraying his country or was he actually trying to lie and hurt/kill you/your friends?

Not that it makes a difference because both are terrible.

I don't know. Both? Does it count as "betraying his country" if he thought he was doing the right thing for his country? I don't even know anymore. HYDRA is crazy.

At the risk of sounding trite, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I'm not sure that excuses him.

It's just that actively trying to murder you is a little different from well-meaning and delusional.

... I'm pretty sure he can't hurt me, at this point. I think his feelings get in the way, or something. I was being kept prisoner by HYDRA at one point and they needed to get information out of me, but... nobody was sent to torture me. And it's HYDRA, they're not exactly known for being weaksauce.

That said, his feelings for me didn't seem to extend to the rest of our team. So.

Yeah. It's all kinds of fucked up.

Well, if we're looking at it from a comparative perspective, I think I can revoke my disapproval of Jessie.

Haha. Yeah. Jesse has his faults, but... he's not a neo-Nazi. Or spying on me for the enemy and lying about it for nearly a year. Or emotionally manipulating me.

Who the hell even knows. He lied to us for so long, Lydia. I can't believe none of us saw it. I really... thought he was a good person.
