I got ported out, so that sucked.

[What sucks, exactly, seems to be held back—for the moment. Kate's someone who's particularly good at being open about some things, and not others.]

Twenty four hours, jumped a couple months forward. Apparently David, Noh, and Billy's boyfriend are running around with a criminal? Or were, I kind of didn't get an update on that.

[In hindsight, that was a mistake.

Is she going to have to text Noh to find out?

No, he hasn't ported out yet.]

What, like... for fun, or on a mission?

Apparently, Noh's crazy ex-girlfriend got caught in the middle of beating up a bunch of superheroes, so Noh, David, and Teddy got involved. Only their involvement led to them running around with a C-list villain whose powers are kind of flight and invisibility. Kind of.

[She rattles it off rather quickly. The night she got those texts, she couldn't believe it.

Then again, she could also believe it.

Ah, life.]

I'm sure some aspect of it was fun?

I know I'm not exactly the paragon of good decisions, but. Wow.

Neither am I, but I guess that's what you get for turning up late.

Oh well. I guess we've all gotta make some bad decisions eventually... it's how we learn, or something, right?

[She sounds a little distant on that one, though.]

It's not that. [She waves her hand.] Besides, we should be talking about your bad decision still.

Really. Is it really so difficult to trust that I know what I'm doing? I know I'm not a superhero like you or anything but I'm not stupid.

I know that you're doing this alone, and you're not accepting back up.

So, no, I don't trust that you can handle this alone.

... Look, I appreciate that you're looking out for me, Kate. I really do. But it's just a hack. It's not exactly something I need another person for.

Two of my teammates are an alien genius and someone who has the knowledge of a bunch of different superheroes. Not to mention two extremely powerful magicians.

You don't think they could have helped?

I don't want them to be put at risk because of me, okay? If I get arrested...

[And she will be, because it's part of her plan.]

The idea is that you don't get arrested, and the odds are that you will.

[She's barely hiding the agitation in her voice at this point.]

I'm planning on it, okay, Kate? I want them to arrest me. That's the plan. That's why I didn't involve anyone else.

[After Kate's two arrests in less than three days, she can't help but look at Skye incredulously.]

It's worked for me three times now. Why not a fourth?

And what do you plan to do with your arrest? Stare at walls? Talk to Dorian about how you want better poetry?

They're going to cut me a deal.
